POLAVARAM PROJECT WILL BE COMPLETED BY 2018 BY ANY COST: AP CM CHANDRABABU NAIDU

Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naiduhas given a deadline of 2018 to the irrigation department to complete the Polavaram project. From now on, Mr. Naidu will continuously monitor the pace and progress of work from the Command and Control Centre in the CM Office at the new temporary secretariat at Velagapudi in Amaravati. CCTV cameras using optical fiber network for round the clock surveillance will be arranged at the project site. He will make regular field trips to get an understanding of the progress made

Progress made until now:

– Relief and Rehabilitation works will be started immediately after Rs.3,000 crores was has been released under the phase I
– An estimated 371 villages in 8 mandals of East and West Godavari districts are to be covered under R&R package of the Polavaram project
– As per 2011 census 26,200 SCs and 89,827 STs are to be rehabilitated
– Of the total 1,80,906.46 acres needed for Polavaram project, the government has acquired 86,421 acres so far spending Rs 1,771 crores
– The government has to acquire 94,445 acres at a cost of Rs 9866 cr.
– 28 lakh cubic metres of earth work and 564 lakh cubic metres spillway work has been completed so far
– 18 lakh cubic metres of concrete works and 79 lakh cubic metres of earth-cum-rock fill dam work is yet to be completed
– By 2018 water will be supplied to Polavaram left and right canals through gravity
