Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Scratches More Easily but Might Be Harder to Break

A new durability test suggests that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra’s screen may scratch more easily than expected, despite using the latest Corning Gorilla Armor 2 protection. However, this could mean the phone is less likely to break when dropped.

Screen Scratches More Easily Than Galaxy S24 Ultra

YouTuber JerryRigEverything tested the phone’s durability and found that the screen started getting scratches at level 6 on the Mohs scale of hardness (a system that measures scratch resistance).

This is similar to many other premium smartphones, but it is worse than the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which only started scratching at level 7. This suggests that the S25 Ultra’s screen is easier to scratch than its predecessor.

Possible Reason: A Trade-Off for Drop Protection

The exact reason is unclear, but one possibility is that the S24 Ultra’s glass was too hard, making it more likely to break when dropped. Harder glass resists scratches better but can also be more brittle.

Samsung and Corning may have intentionally made the glass slightly softer so it is less likely to crack or shatter when dropped. This means that while the screen scratches more easily, the phone might be more durable overall.

Corning’s Claims vs. Test Results

Corning claims that Gorilla Armor 2 has better drop resistance while still maintaining strong scratch resistance. So, it’s possible that JerryRigEverything’s test results were an exception.

Even if the screen does scratch more easily, it might be a good trade-off if it makes the phone harder to break.
