5000 ACRES ALLOTTED FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A WORLD CLASS AIRPORT AT MANGALAGIRI

So far, there were speculations that the existing airport at Gannavaram would be would be developed into an international one and would serve the needs of Amaravati. But the state cabinet decided on Thursday that an international airport will be built on a 5000 acre land at Mangalagiri, which falls in the new capital region.

Till the time that is built, Gannavaram Airport will be used as the main airport; and extensive expansion works are being done there as well.

In the same meeting, chaired by chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, the cabinet cleared a proposal to develop the Viskahaptnam airport by extending its runway and ensure better connectivity to other cities in the country and abroad. An MoU will be signed with the Airports Authority of India to this effect, according to information and public relations minister Palle Raghunath Reddy.

The cabinet also cleared a proposal to constitute city tourism councils for Amaravati, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Rajahmundry. These councils will allot lands for tourism projects.
